Hurricane Protection Permitting

Permits may be required for the installation of hurricane protection products, windows, doors and garage doors in certain counties and municipalities. All counties and municipalities have different guidelines.

Companies who install without following the proper permit procedure can put the customer in jeopardy of a potential fine

The physical location of the dwelling or building will determine which appropriate governing body (city or county for example) will be responsible for approving a permit request, and subsequently is responsible for final inspection and approval when the work is completed. There is a fee associated with the permit process that can vary significantly by each governing body.

Credentials Matter

When choosing a company to install your hurricane protection, please require that your installation team has the proper license and permitting requirements. This ensures a professional, quality installation as well as no potential fines from your county for installation without proper permits. Coastal Storm Protection will only work on projects with the proper permitting regulations met.

The Permitting Process

The permit process can be time consuming and frustrating to many customers. Generally, the procedure has several stages.Once the customer has received and approved an estimate/quote and put down the required deposit, the company initiates the necessary paperwork required by the specific governing body. Depending on the volume of requests on-hand for approval, it can take several days for an approval to be received back. After the product is installed, we will coordinate with the city or county for a final inspection and advise the customer.

The two main things required for the final inspect:

  1. the product must be left up on one opening to be inspected, and
  2. the permit must be prominently displayed outside for the inspector to see and approve. This permit is left with the customer by the installation crew upon completion of the project, please do not remove it before the inspection has taken place.

In cases where the inspection fails (and this can happen for a variety of minor reasons), we will follow-up and take whatever actions are necessary to correct the matter and resubmit for approval. Customers may be able to track the status of their approval on-line via various websites.

Below are forms that must be completed by the customer in order to pull a permit.
